It has been nearly one month since the Casper Police Department’s new Traffic Enforcement Unit began its enhanced patrols in school zones across the city of Casper.

Casper Police like what they're seeing, saying streets around city schools are safer now than they were prior to implementation of the additional patrols.

Sgt. Pete Abrams, who’s with the Casper Police Department’s Traffic Enforcement Unit, says more Casper drivers are now complying with speed and safety regulations in city school zones.

Anecdotally, the officers’ observations and our observations are that we’re getting better compliance in the school zones with speeds,” Abrams said. “We’re seeing more vehicles make stops and fewer vehicles traveling at excessive speeds.”

Abrams says drivers can continue to expect double-fines for school zone traffic violations.
