AARP Casper Action Team Holding Coffee Event To Gather Info
AARP Wyoming’s Casper Action Team (CAT) wants to know where you would like to see it engage in Natrona County, and they're willing to give you a coffee muffins for your input.
The CAT will be hosting a "listening post" Friday, March 22nd between 8:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m near the food court at Eastridge Mall, hoping to hear from as many Natrona County citizens age 50 and over as it can during that time.
“We need to hear if folks are aware that the team exists and what they might like to see us take part in or initiate, or do in the community to make the community a better place,” said CAT leader Barb Summers. ”We want to know if there is anything the public or our members would like us to focus on. We are also looking for people who might be interested in volunteering with us.”
AARP says they've been especially active in the Casper area in the past year since CAT was formed. For example, in February the CAT teamed with the Humane Society ito pay for adoptions of older pets by residents age 50 and over. Here are some other events, from an AARP release:
Shredfest: Last September the CAT sponsored the renting of a paper-shredding truck and invited residents to bring old documents to the Hilltop Bank on the city’s east side for free shredding. The turnout was so large a second paper shredding truck had to be called in. It was a great illustration of fraud prevention.
Seniors Falls and Fires: The Seniors Falls and Fires program brings volunteers into the homes of those age 50 and over to help change batteries in, or replace smoke alarms, as well as install night lights, and find other obstructions in the home that may lead to a fall by the resident. The next Falls and Fires event will be held April 6, 9, and 13. This is a partnership with Reveille Rotary, the Fire Department, AARP and others.
Information tables at events around Casper: The CAT is also regularly at events around Natrona County handing out information on everything from Medicare to ways to keep yourself safe from identity theft. This spring you will find the CAT manning a table at the Casper College Wellness Conference, the Senior Center’s Information Fair, and the well attended NicFest.
If you're interested in being a part of the CAT, you're encouraged to attend the regular meeting each third Thursday of the month at 7:00 p.m. in the Casper Senior Center.
