Cheyenne Woman Killed In Crash On I-80

A 43 year old Cheyenne woman was killed in a single vehicle crash Wednesday morning on I-80 about 12 miles east of Laramie in Albany County.

The Wyoming Highway Patrol says the dtiver, 49 year old Cheyenne resident James Evans, was westbound on I-80 in the right lane. Black ice conditions exsisted on the roadway and Evans lost control of the vehicle as it started to rotate towards the right shoulder. Evans steered to the left and over corrected the steering back to the right causing the vehicle to rotate clockwise and go into a broadside slide. The truck left the roadway on the right side going into the borrow ditch.

Two Nebraska children were killed in a one-vehicle rollover Thursday on Interstate 80 on the east side of Laramie, according to Wyoming Highway Patrol spokesman Sgt. Steve Townsend.

WYDOT Director John Cox testified before a U.S. Senate Committee in Washington Thursday about the importance of maintaining the interstate highway system.

Highways through rural states serve as a bridge, he told the Committee on Environment and Public Works, between heavily populated areas. Most of the trucks on the interstate in Wyoming are just passing through.

Interstate 80 eastbound from Laramie to Cheyenne remains closed to commercial vehicles following a morning accident involving two semitrailers.

Sgt. Stephen Townsend of the Wyoming Highway Patrol says it's still unclear how many people died in the fiery accident this morning. He says one eastbound semitrailer rear-ended a slower-moving rig at about 5:40 a.m. near Buford.
