A spokesman for the Cheyenne Police Department says that agency has been using foot patrols in downtown Cheyenne over the last few months.

Officer Dan Long says the patrols, known as the ''Community Action Team'', grew out of the HEAT (Homeless Empowerment Action Team) program. That program featured officers and  representatives of the Comea House Shelter who approached homeless people in the downtown area.

Long says the Community Action Team has been well received by business owners and others who say they like the chance to interact with police officers face to face.
