Yellowstone Fire Burning Near Grand Loop Road

YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, Wyo. (AP) — Yellowstone National Park officials say a wildfire burning near the Grand Loop Road north of Yellowstone Lake was the most active Monday on the side farthest away from any major visitor areas.

The Alum Fire has burned an estimated 4,000 acres — or 6.25 square miles — in the Mud Volcano vicinity.
While the fire is well away from any large visitor areas, firefighters are performing structure protection work in Fishing Bridge, Lake Village and Bridge Bay as a precaution.

The main concern now is smoke from the fire possibly hampering visibility on the lower, east section of Grand Loop Road.

Several other fires are burning in remote areas of Yellowstone and pose no danger although they are sending up a lot of smoke.
