The new month of August will start off with high pressure overhead and hot temperatures.  Highs today and Thursday will be in the 80s and 90s.

As far as precipitation, there will not be much over the next couple of days.  A few scattered gusty thunderstorms will be found mainly in the eastern third of the state.  Strong winds, frequent lightning and brief heavy rain will be the main threats with these thunderstorms.

Speaking of the wind, it will start to pick up around many areas of the state late Thursday.  West winds at 15 to 25 mph are expected with stronger gusts in some locations.  This wind and low relative humidity has prompted a Fire Weather Watch to be issued for much of the state Thursday afternoon and evening.
