Wyoming’s Arctic Blast: How Cold Was It? [VIDEO]
The bitter cold weather that swept through Wyoming over the New Year's holiday carried some temperatures that were beyond bone-chilling, they were downright dangerous.
The National Weather Service in Riverton reported an actual temperature of 33 below zero (not wind chill factor) at Bondurant in the early morning hours of New Year's Day. Meteorologist Don Day Jr. of Day Weather says a temperature of 39 below was recorded in the town of Daniel, and the Casper area experienced wind chill factors of 25 to 30 below.
The NWS Meteorologists in Riverton used the opportunity to demonstrate the "ice crystal trick" (see video above) and although there's a bit of a warm up in the immediate forecast, we can be sure the bitter cold will return this winter season so they also provide a reminder of how to best dress for such weather.
