Wyoming Records First West Nile Case This Year

RIVERTON, Wyo. (AP) — The Wyoming Health Department is reporting the state's first case of West Nile virus in a human this year.

The agency announced Friday that the case involves an adult female from Platte County.

Meantime, mosquitoes with West Nile virus have been detected throughout Fremont County this week.

Officials say they found mosquitoes with the virus in Riverton, Lander, rural Hudson and Arapahoe.

Fremont County Weed and Pest supervisor Lars Baker tells The Associated Press that West Nile is showing up earlier this year than in the past.

Baker advises people to wear long sleeves and mosquito repellant to avoid being bitten, especially in the evenings.
