Wyoming Highway Continues to Slide Down Slope
CODY, Wyo. (AP) — The northbound lane of Chief Joseph Scenic Highway has continued to slide downhill.
The lane has been sliding down the slope since March.
Wyoming Department of Transportation District Engineer Pete Hallsten of Basin says the lane is lost, but two-way traffic has been maintained.
The ditch has been filled in on the uphill side of the highway to provide adequate width for two lanes.
The slide is located near Dead Indian Creek, about 20 miles (32 kilometers) west of Chief Joseph's intersection with state Highway 120.
Halsten says the long-term repair of the slide is beyond what maintenance crews can fix.
He says the department's geology team is still mapping the slide to determine how big it is and what is causing it.
