Yellowstone River

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced the settlement on Monday.

The biggest question it seems most Montanans are interested in right now is: when will the railroad bridge be back up and running? Our supply chains have been battered, and there's concern rail worker jobs could be impacted.

The order comes in the wake of the nonnative species being caught in the Gardner River at its confluence with the Yellowstone just outside of Yellowstone National Park.

In either case, the bridge would be widened from 24 to 30 feet.

Flooding in 2011 scoured the river bottom and exposed the buried pipeline, causing it to break along a stretch of river popular with anglers and boaters.

District Ranger Todd Stiles says that the current bridge is unsafe.

They plan to reintroduce native species after the operation is finished.

On Aug. 19, FWP closed all recreation on the Yellowstone River and its tributaries from Gardiner to Laurel after staff counted more than 4,000 dead whitefish.
