State of Wyoming Proposes Fines After 2 Deaths in Trench

JACKSON, Wyo. (AP) — The Wyoming Occupational Safety and Health Administration has cited a Jackson Hole developer for five violations following a trench collapse that killed two men last year.

In addition, the Jackson Hole News & Guide reports that the agency has proposed penalties adding up to more than $10,500 against Fireside Resort, which is owned by Wilson developer Jamie Mackay.

The penalty can be negotiated through an informal conference process or a formal contention.

When reached by phone Tuesday, Mackay's attorney, George Santini, of Cheyenne, declined comment through his secretary.

The trench collapse killed 42-year-old Juan Baez-Sanchez and 56-year-old Victoriano Garcia-Perez on Sept. 28. The men were working on the 12-foot-deep trench at a house construction site owned by Mackay.
