Laramie County authorities say 24 children at a Cheyenne elementary school were sickened after ingesting an unidentified substance that a fellow student brought to school.

Gerry Luce is public information officer with the Laramie County Sheriff's Office. He says investigators recovered two vials of the substance on Thursday and sent it to the state Crime Lab for analysis.

The Associated Press reports  that Luce says the substance appears to be a concentrated form of food coloring with a high sugar content.

Luce says a child at the school, and possibly the child's sibling from a junior high school, brought the substance into the school. The children were assessed by medical personnel and the school nurse after showing signs of upset stomachs.
