LAS VEGAS (AP) — Mitt Romney has won the Republican presidential nomination after years of fighting, though his triumph was partially overshadowed by Donald Trump, the real estate mogul who has stoked doubts about whether President Barack Obama was born in America.

Primary voters in Texas on Tuesday pushed Romney past the 1,144-delegate threshold he needed to win the nomination. Meanwhile, the candidate was raising money at the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas.

Trump steered clear of the so-called "birther" issue at Tuesday night's fundraiser at his hotel, but brought it up several times during earlier media interviews. Romney hasn't condemned Trump's assertions despite intensified criticism from Democrats and Republicans.

Romney will continue his fundraising push this week in wealthy California enclaves like Hillsborough, near San Francisco, and Beverly Hills.
