A Ranchester woman died in a one vehicle rollover crash east of Sheridan on Saturday evening, according to a news release from the Wyoming Highway Patrol.

Ashley R. Peterson, 33, was driving a passenger car eastbound on Interstate 90 about eight miles east of Sheridan when the vehicle drifted to the right side of the road, according to the news release from Patrol Sgt. David Wagener.

Peterson apparently overcorrected to the left and began to slide into the median. After entering the median, the car tripped and rolled multiple times.

She was not wearing her seat belt, was ejected from the car, and died at the scene.

An eight-year-old child was the the back seat, restrained, and sustained minor injuries. The child was taken to the Sheridan Memorial Hospital, treated, and released.

The Wyoming Highway Patrol is investigating distracted driving and alcohol use as contributing factors in the crash.
