Football is just as much numbers as it is a contact sport. Statistics from every high school football game played in Wyoming since 1893 will be gathered in a book... Its author hopes to have this book of numbers done before the end of the year.

Listen here,

"It's a lot of work, but it's about 90 percent done."

Patrick Schmiedt  grew up in Midwest and is currently a sportswriter for the Casper Star Tribune.

"I'm waiting for this year to finish, because I'm gonna put the 2011 season in the book and then hope to have it finished in time for people to put under their Christmas trees."

Schmiedt describes the work as more of a reference book and will include all the coaches for all the teams and stats on games spanning some 118 years. "Its right around  22,000 games by the time it's all said and done."

He says they'll be some storytelling as he tells about each school's biggest victory and most heartbreaking loss, "and then I'll also talk about the evolution of the game and I talk about how the game evolved from the 1890s through to now and how we got to the point where high school football in Wyoming is what it is today."

If you can't wait for the book, all 21,000 plus games are already online.  Check out Schmeidt's website at http://wyoming-football.com/ and then look  out for a launch of his book later this year.
