Wyoming's governor lost his grandmother today (Thursday). According to a release from Gov. Matt Mead's office, Martha Hansen died this morning at her home at the family ranch in Jackson. Martha Hansen was the wife of Cliff Hansen, a former U.S. senator and governor of Wyoming who died in 2009.

On the passing of his grandmother, Gov. Mead issued the statement, “A frontier wife who became First Lady, my grandmother had a quiet grace that was a defining attribute of her life. She touched many, as a mother, friend, and ambassador for the state she loved. Whatever her role, she was unfailingly kind and gracious and she leaves my family both a legacy and a lesson in the resilient strength of a kind heart.”

Gov. Mead also expressed gratitude for the compassion of caregivers in his grandmother's final years. Martha Hansen was 97. Funeral arrangements are pending.
