WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama says that some new state voter ID laws make it harder for groups like seniors to vote, and he says that's a big mistake.

The president says he's made sure the Justice Department is taking a look at laws being enacted across the country, to ensure people aren't being denied access to their right to vote.

Obama said his priority is making sure as many people are participating in the country's democracy as possible.

He made his comments Friday on "The Michael Smerconish Program."
