They want your opinion. The Natrona County School District Board of Trustees is looking for public input on the proposed revisions to "Board Policy 5440 – Student Harassment, Intimidation, or Bullying." You'll find a link to the proposed policy at the end of this article.

The revised policy is part of the District's overall comprehensive safety plan, but school officials say it's it's also an opportunity to improve and form consistent policies across the District.

"There have been incidents in the past where we have had questions form our stakeholders, our community members about certain situations, and so we want to make sure that across the district that our expectations and definitions are uniform," said NCSD Public Relations Officer Tanya Southerland. "That way our parents, our guardians, and our community members know what to expect in situations and most importantly I think is that students know as well what this is for us, what their expectations are, and how they can be a contributor to a safe learning environment in their school."

The District was limited in the changes they could make because they must follow the language in state statute. "But we tried to revise it so that it would be easier to read and understand," said  Trustee Dana Howie. "One of the things we wanted to do for sure was make sure we had good definitions of bullying, harassment, and intimidation, because what I'm finding is if the students don't always know, sometime the parents don't either."

You can give your feedback by sending comments to communications@myncsd.org on or before September 9th, 2018. The comments will be collected, without alteration, and submitted to the Board of Trustees for review.

If you'd like to comment in person, the Board will take public feedback during the September 10th, 2018 Board of Trustees Work Session. That's at 6:00 p.m. at the Central Services Facility at 970 North Glenn Road in Casper.
