A busy intersection in Casper was closed for most of the day when a semi-tractor trailer carrying liquid chemicals tipped over.

A Casper Police Department spokesperson says at around 9:45am on Thursday, May 30th, the semi was traveling east-bound on First Street and was making a left turn onto Poplar.

A combination of factors including speed, a load shift and the wind is what caused the vehicle to lose its balance and fall on its right side.

A Casper Fire EMS spokesperson says that some of the chemicals inside the trailer spilled out on the roadway, but once Haz Mat teams examined it, they determined there was no immediate danger to the area, and the chemicals did not get into any drainages or the river.

Clean-up crews were able to get the intersection reopened sometime before 4:00pm.
