Bond was set at $500,000 cash Monday for a Cheyenne couple accused of attempted murder and child abuse.

According to police, an officer was sent to a home in the 500 block of West 6th Street at about 12:36 p.m. last Wednesday, Aug. 23, to do a welfare check on 20-year-old Hannah Rose Wingert's 2-year-old son, after a concerned caller reported that the child was covered with bruises.

When the officer asked Wingert to take a closer look at the boy, she reportedly stated, "Go ahead, but he looks really bad because 'he likes to hurt himself.'"

The officer says the boy's eyes were black and blue and swollen shut, he was sweating and lethargic, and most of his face, including the front and back of his ears, was severely bruised and swollen.

The boy also had small lacerations across the top of his forehead, neck, arms, and hands.

When the officer lifted up the boy's shirt to look at his stomach, there was extensive bruising across the top of his chest, and all the boy could say was, "Ouch."

The officer says it was clear that the boy had been severely beaten.

The boy was taken to Cheyenne Regional Medical Center where he was immediately evaluated and found to have a broken right leg, which the ER physician agreed was the result of severe physical abuse.

The boy was later life-flighted to Children's Hospital Colorado where they confirmed he had multiple broken bones and internal injuries.

Wingert and her boyfriend, 21-year-old Joshua Dillon Moody, were arrested Friday and formally charged Monday with attempted first-degree murder and felony child abuse.

The couple is scheduled to be back in Laramie County Circuit Court for their preliminary hearings on Sept. 6 at 3:30 p.m.
