Celebrate The Wooly Mammoth at Casper’s Tate Museum
I bet the Woolly Mammoths that roamed Wyoming way back when never knew that they were in place called Wyoming, and they never imagined that they would be celebrated with a day dedicated to them.
Join the Tate Geological Museum at Casper College on Saturday, March 14th, from 10 am - 2 pm for a "Dee-Union."
They will be commemorating 20 years since the discovery of Dee, the largest mounted Columbian Mammoth in North America!
This free event includes a talk on "Mammoths Across Wyoming," an exploration of the flora and fauna of Dee's world, and a celebration with cupcakes and lemonade. Children receive a free mammoth poster while supplies last!
Have you been hiking in Wyoming and looked down to see something and thought, what the heck is that?
It happens a lot in this state.
Do you have a fossil or rock you'd like to identify?
Make sure you bring the entire family.
There is something for everyone, and the kids are going to love this.
The always popular Santasaurus dinosaur will be on hand for fun photos.
The Tate is located on the southern end of the Casper College campus, just look for the giant T. Rex.
The mission of the Tate Geological Museum at Casper College is to provide educational resources to the community, researchers, and visitors.
They are a regional Earth Science Education Center that is maintained by exhibits, educational programs, active collecting, and collection preservation.
They are always FREE and open to the public.
You can find the museum at 125 College Dr. in Casper, Wyoming. Just follow this link for the map.
You can't miss it, because there is a life-size T. Rex statue right out front.
The Tate's big claim to fame is Dee, an 11,000-year-old Mammoth that was discovered not too far away, back in 2006.
That's not just some Mammoth. Dee is the oldest, largest, and most complete Columbian Mammoth on display in the country.
Many Triceratops have been found in the area, and you'll see much of that work going on and on display at the Tate.
You'll also see Stan the T. Rex on display (most of him anyway).
Get up close and personal with Stan's skull and look at those impressive teeth.
