SEE: Wyoming At Night
Wyoming is, in part, a dark sky state. There are regions of our area that don't have any city lights and not even a security light from a ranch in the distance. That makes for prime star gazing.
The electric lights of more populated states are beautiful and worth looking at, but there is something special about the opposite extreme. There are places in Wyoming where you can see the light domes of distant towns. But have you ever visited the truly dark skies?
So what can you see at night in Wyoming, considering how dark it is?
Let's have a look at a few videos. The first two deal with stargazing. The next is about the wildlife that stalks the Wyoming night.
Below, Dr. Samuel Singer, Executive Director of Wyoming Stargazing, shares why the night skies are his passion and how Wyoming is one of the best places in the world to watch the stars.
City folk will never know how many stars there are to see in a clear, dark sky.
Wyoming, being so high up, has less atmosphere, which makes stargazing even better.
This next video is a time-lapse from a campsite. It shows what a clear, cool sky at high altitude can show us if we are patient enough to watch for something amazing to happen. Or we can record a time-lapse and check it in the morning.
We camped under the Milky Way while preparing for our balloon launch into the eclipse. We were able to capture this time-lapse under the night sky. The stars were amazing! (Winston Yeung)
This next night video of Wyoming is AMAIZING.
Bears, mountain lions, wolves, and other predators and creatures that are rarely seen. These animals are all around us in Wyoming. They hide from us, sometimes in plain sight, and we are too lost in our human thoughts to notice them.
Just because we went to bed does not mean that the world has come to a stop. Actually, it has just awakened.
