One in three adults has prediabetes, that's why the Wyoming Department of Health is encouraging people to take advantage of a new campaign to find out if they're at risk.

"Prediabetes is often overlooked and it's definitely misunderstood," said Department of Health Spokeswoman Kim Deti. "What it is is that your blood sugar level is higher than normal, but not high enough yet to be diagnosed with diabetes."

"People who are in that state of having prediabetes have a pretty high chance of developing diabetes at some point down the road," said Deti. "We want them to take a turn off that road and do some things to avoid that and that's what this campaign is about."

A simple risk test as well as helpful advice and information is available at DoIHavePrediabetes.org. People can also sign up for tips by text message.

"Diabetes is something that is certainly harmful," said Deti. "It can be managed, but it's something you want to avoid if you can."
