CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — Dangerously cold weather is hitting Wyoming, with wind chill readings lower than 40 below zero recorded in some areas.

Some of the coldest spots were in southeastern Wyoming. The National Weather Service says the wind chill near Pine Bluffs was minus 48 and negative 27 in Cheyenne early Thursday morning.

But it was also very cold in Casper, which set a new record low when the regular temperature hit 20 below zero Thursday morning. The previous record was minus 16 set in 1971.

Buffalo also set a new record low of 14 below, breaking the 2014 record of 9 below.
