A couple from Casper was killed Monday night in an accident three miles north of Casper on Interstate 25.

Major Perry Jones with the Wyoming Highway Patrol said the accident happened at around 6 p.m. when 83-year-old Duane Hartman was merging into northbound traffic at milepost 191.

“Mr. Hartman made a sharp left-hand turn toward the median, crossed both lanes of travel, and, simultaneously, a southbound commercial vehicle was in the left-hand lane, and the Hartman vehicle just collided with it broadside,” Jones said.

Both Duane Hartman and 68-year-old Linda Hartman died at the scene.

Jones said the accident closed a portion of I-25 for nearly 5 hours on Monday as troopers conducted their investigation. Information on the driver of the commercial vehicle, 59-year-old David Dobbin of Box Elder, S.D., was not made available.
