Campfires Allowed in Yellowstone Again
YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, Wyo. (AP) — Campers in Yellowstone National Park can enjoy campfires again.
The National Park Service on Wednesday lowered fire restrictions that prohibited campfires since last week because of extreme fire danger.
However, the park has seen cooler temperatures and some rain this week. Campfires are now allowed in campgrounds, day-use areas and established fire rings. Charcoal and wood fires are still prohibited in backcountry campsites.
Five fires are burning in Yellowstone. The biggest has burned about 64 square miles since it was started by lightning on Aug. 8.
All Yellowstone entrances, roads and major attractions are open.
