A group of Republican senators including Wyoming’s Mike Enzi and John Barrasso are proposing changes to the labor laws that would provide what they describe as relief from the mandates of the Affordable Care Act.

The Small Business Fairness in Health Care Act, S.2205, would restore the definition of “full-time” work under the health care law to 40 hours a week and exempt more small businesses from the employer mandate.

The current definition of full-time under the ACA is 30 hours per week. The bill would also replace the ACA definition of a small business from one with less than 50 employees to any small business that is defined as a “small business concern” under the Small Business Act.

That would be a much broader definition, and exempt many more companies from the health care law.
