Wyoming Won’t Capture Bear that Attacked Hunter
RIVERTON, Wyo. (AP) — Wildlife officials say they won't try and capture a bear that attacked a hunter near Dubois in Fremont County.
The 59-year-old man was flown to a Denver hospital after the Sunday incident for treatment of significant wounds to his face, arm and leg. An update on his condition wasn't available Wednesday.
Dan Thompson with the Wyoming Game and Fish Department says the hunter was trying to retrieve an elk he shot the day before when he encountered three bears believed to be an adult female and her two cubs. The hunter says he was attacked by the mother bear.
The bears eventually ran away after other people who had been hunting with the man came over.
The man hadn't been armed at the time.
