Wyoming Unemployment Rate Holds at 4.9 Percent in March

The unemployment rate in Wyoming remains very low compared to national figures.

For a fourth consecutive month, Wyoming’s statewide unemployment rate held steady at 4.9 percent in March – nearly three percent lower than the national average of 7.6 percent.

David Bullard, a senior economist with the Wyoming Department of Workforce Services, says energy development continues to drive Wyoming employment.

“Some of the lowest unemployment rates were found in areas with a lot of energy development – Sublette County was the lowest, followed by Converse County and Niobrara County,” Bullard said.

Bullard says Natrona County’s unemployment rate remains close to the statewide average.

“Natrona County’s unemployment rate was 4.7 percent in March – down just a hair from 4.8 percent in February and 5.4 percent a year ago,” Bullard said. “It seems to be decreasing.”

In March, Lincoln County had Wyoming’s highest unemployment rate at 7.9 percent.
