The fourth annual Wyoming Law Enforcement Memorial 5K run/walk will take place this Sunday in Cheyenne.

"This is to honor officers who died in the line of duty," said Cheyenne Police Department spokesman Sgt. David Janes. "This was created in 2011 and it was a combined effort from all of our local agencies here in Cheyenne."

Proceeds from the 5K will go towards the design and production of a bronze sculpture that will honor Wyoming's fallen peace officers.

"If people who want to run in the 5K know of an officer who died in the line of duty they can purchase a commemorative bib that will have that officer's name on it, so basically they can be running for that officer," said Janes.

"They'll also get a neat little display of another copy of that bib with the officer's name and then a paragraph talking about the officer and how that officer died in the line of duty," Janes added.

The 5K starts at 9 a.m. at the Cheyenne Public Safety Center. Those wishing to participate can register at Foot of the Rockies in Cheyenne or online at raceentry.com.
