Now that the Thanksgiving weekend is upon us, many motorists will be hitting the road to visit friends and family.

Recently repair crews reopened the west-bound lanes of Interstate 90 south of Sheridan.

Those lanes were closed for repairs during the summer because of a landslide.

That was just one of several major incidents that affected travel across the cowboy state earlier this year.

Other examples include landslides on highways south of Jackson, west of Sundance, east of Greybull, east of Ryan's Park, and east of Baggs...most of which have been repaired to an extent.

Doug McGee with the WYDOT Public Affairs Office in Cheyenne says this year's landslide numbers were way above normal.

McGee: "The volume of those situations was certainly out of the ordinary. We always have some of that type of activity in the spring. certain areas, especially when you're talking about river valley and things like that, will see some of that in the spring/early summer from the runoff that, yes this year there was definitely a lot more than normal activity. To my understanding there was greater than normal snowpack, so then the runoff volume was greater than normal and it seems the temperature changed dramatically so then you had a lot more snow-melt."

Recently seasonal road closures have been put into effect on sections of State Highway 130 and 70 in southern Wyoming.

Also U.S. Highway 212 over Beartooth Pass closed for the winter season about a month and a-half ago, and a 22-mile stretch of U.S. Highway 14 A west of Burgess Junction was shut down earlier this week.

McGee says the roads are normally closed due to too much snow, and too little traffic, so it's not worth plowing the road and keeping it open.

Those roads will reopen to motorists sometime around next Memorial Day.

NOW THAT THE THANKSGIVING WEEKEND IS UPON US, MANY MOTORISTS WILL BE HITTING THE ROAD TO VISIT FRIENDS AND FAMILY.

THOSE ROADS WILL REOPEN TO MOTORISTS SOMETIME AROUND NEXT MEMORIAL DAY.
