A ruling by the World Trade Organization last November on a challenge to the U.S. Country Of Origin Labeling Policy said the U.S., in labeling, was not treating meat imports equally and so the practice could be construed as a trade violation.

Tim Reif,  of the U.S. Trade Representatives Office, says they are appealing the decision.

"We would be presenting the case to the appeals panel of the WTO, which is the called appellate body."

Reif says the presentation and conclusions by the dispute settlement body are expected sometime in the next couple months.
