Univ. of Wyoming Tech Program Doomed by Numbers and Lack of Funds
CASPER, Wyo. (AP) — Technical education is among five academic degree programs recently eliminated by the University of Wyoming.
The program is based at UW's Casper campus and instructs future teachers in industrial fields like welding and carpentry.
Provost Kate Miller says low enrollment ultimately led to the decision to eliminate technical education.
According to university data, technical education has one instructor and graduated 15 students between 2010 and 2015.
Opponents of eliminating the program noted that colleges in other states are expanding their technical education programs. They also argued that elimination of the program would create a dearth of instructors around Wyoming.
But Miller says there are other means available for obtaining an industrial teaching license.
