Torrington Sugar Plant Closing
It’s a move that’s been in the works for over a year, and now it’s here.
The city of Torrington is about to lose one of its biggest employers as the Western Sugar Cooperative prepares to close its sugar beet facility.
The slow phase out began in the spring of 2015, and next month, the process reaches its endpoint.
Roughly 70 employees will be out of work as more processing is moved to Nebraska and Colorado.
The factory will be converted to a storage and shipping facility for the cooperative.
