The renovation marks a juncture in the city's history.

The renovation starts June 1, and the general contractor is Caspar Building Systems, Inc.

Officials say the project is designed to add about 19,000 square feet and upgrade existing space in order to fit multiple clinics into the building.

The remaining renovations include an auditorium, student learning center and visitor center.

About 100 people attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Gov. Mark Gordon says the renovation was a good investment.

The renovation of the Capitol building and other buildings around it cost about $300 million and began in 2014.

The renovated hotel will have 198 rooms renovated to Clarion's specifications, 42,000 square feet of convention space.

The construction will not require moving students to other schools.

The project is expected to be completed by this year's fall semester.
