Special Eclipse Postmarks Offered In Casper, Around Wyoming
A number of post offices around the state, including Casper, will be offering special postmarks to commemorate the Total Solar Eclipse. The postmark is available beginning August 21st, the day of the eclipse, and will only be available for 30 days.
According to the United States Postal Service, the special postmark includes the city, date of the Eclipse, the time and duration of the totality, and the latitude and longitude of the city. Casper Postmaster Derek Sharpe says any item bearing current First-Class postage stamps will be postmarked at no charge,
“We encourage all those in the community to come out and buy a sheet of the Total Eclipse of the Sun Forever Stamps and receive the Special Postmark,” said Sharpe. “The special postmark when combined with the Stamp will make for a great collectible.”
Other Post Offices along the area of totality will also offer unique, special postmarks including:
- Alcova
- Bondurant
- Douglas
- Ft. Washakie
- Glendo
- Glenrock
- Jay Em
- Lander
- Lusk
- Mills
- Powder River
- Riverton
- Shoshoni
- Thermopolis
- Wheatland.
The Total Eclipse of the Sun Stamp was issued June 20th of this year, and unveiled at in Laramie. It is a one-of-a-kind Forever Stamp created using thermochromic ink. The solar eclipse image transforms into the Moon with the heat of your fingers. When it cools, it reverts back to the eclipse.
The Forever stamps are sold in panes of 16 and are available now at Post Offices nationwide and online at usps.com/shop. The Postal Service printed 60 million of the stamps.
