Seasonal Roads In Wyoming Starting To Close For The 2017-18 Winter Season
Some of Wyoming's most scenic areas either already are or soon will be closed to motor vehicle traffic.
U-S Highway 212 over the Beartooth Pass was scheduled to close for the 2017-18 winter season on Tuesday, October 10th, but snow plow crews closed it three days ahead of schedule, due to recent wintery weather in the area.
Dunraven Pass in the northeast portion of Yellowstone National Park is also scheduled to close for the season on Tuesday.
Too much snow, combined with too little traffic in those areas makes snow plowing efforts impractical, so the roads are closed.
Other seasonal roads in Wyoming such as State Highway 130 west of Centennial, State Highway 70 between and Encampment and Baggs, and U-S Highway 14-A west of Burgess Junction, will close for the season at the discretion of WYDOT.
Those closures normally happen at anytime in October or November, and like the Beartooth Highway and Dunraven pass, the roads won't reopen until around Memorial Day of next year.
