New Tool Gives Cheyenne Police Bird’s-Eye View of Frontier Park
In light of events at the national level, Cheyenne police are implementing new technology to ensure rodeo fans have a safe Frontier Days.
Officer Kevin Malatesta says the department will be using its new mobile observation platform at Frontier Park.
"That's going to be recording constantly," said Malatesta. "If something's going on in that area we're going to know about it. We'll be able to review the cameras and have good video evidence."
In addition to its multiple cameras, the unit also has gunshot locating technology which can be monitored in real time.
"If somebody's shooting, our officers will actually receive an instant notification," said Malatesta. "They can look at it on their phone and look at the camera on their phone to try to identify where the shooting may be coming from and who is the shooter."
Malatesta says additional officers will also be working the CFD parades and pancake breakfasts, keeping an eye out for anything suspicious.
