Wyoming Heatwave Begins Thursday

According to regional weatherman Don Day, of Day Weather, extreme heat arrives in Wyoming Thursday.

Temperatures could reach into the low 100s in some areas.

The worst of it will roast the West on Saturday and Sunday.

This is that same heat that was boiling the West Coast just a few days ago.

The good news is that we will have some cloud cover to help bring down those temperatures just a little.

The air will be mostly dry but there is that slight chance of an isolated shower in the afternoon. That will help, too.

The best time to get something done, outside, will be in the early morning hours when temperatures will be rather cool and nice.

The good news is that this heatwave will only last a few days.

After this passes temperatures drop and subtropical moisture moves in with some rain.

We can expect a little rain and a bit of a cooldown for the week after.

That's just going to feel GREAT!

Let's look on the bright side: Wyoming and most of the West and Midwest have been spared the scorching heat waves that the East and West Coast have had to put up with this summer. To put up with it for a week is not so bad.

While heatwaves like this are annoying they are nothing new, and only a few local records have been broken around the nation.

The cause has been high-pressure systems that have drawn tropical air up.

The cooler days were caused by low-pressure systems and wandered down from Canada.

The hottest temperatures on record for the United States, according to NOAA, as a whole, occurred back in the 1930s.

Some of the coolest temperatures on record for the nation, according to NOAA, occurred in the 1970s and the 1990s.
