Gillette Barns Disinfected After Fatal Horse Virus Found
GILLETTE, Wyo. (AP) — A crew is working on sanitizing and disinfecting barns at a multi-event facility in Gillette after reports of a horse virus.
The Gillette News Record reports one horse in the area has been euthanized and another is suspected of suffering from equine herpes virus or EHV-1.
The two horses had competed in events at Cam-plex in the past three weeks.
Cam-plex said in a statement that it's unlikely that either of the horses contracted the disease while they competed at their facility.
Staff cleaned the East Pavilion and Barn No. 3 as a precaution and at the recommendation of the Wyoming Livestock Board and a local veterinarian.
