Charges are pending against the driver of a sport utility vehicle who caused a fatal motorcycle crash in eastern Wyoming on Friday afternoon, according to a news release from the Wyoming Highway Patrol.

Alan E. Dietrich, 56, of Craig, Colo., was riding a motorcycle westbound on Wyoming Highway 387 when he came to the intersection of Wyoming Highway 50 about 19 miles southwest of Wright, according to the news release from Patrol Sgt. David Wagener.

Dean Penor, 85, of Bison, S.D., was driving a SUV and stopped at the intersection on Wyoming Highway 50.

Penor then entered the intersection in front of Dietrich causing Dietrich to brake and lay the motorcycle down. The vehicles collided. Dietrich had a helmet available, but was not wearing it. He died at the scene.

Penor and a passenger in the SUV were uninjured. Charges are pending at this time.
Dietrich marked the 89th highway fatality in Wyoming for 2015. There were 94 fatalities at this same time last year.
