Cheyenne Teacher Facing Sex Charges
A Cheyenne teacher has been arrested for sexual abuse of a minor.
Joe Meza, a math teacher at Johnson Junior High School, made his initial appearance in Laramie County Circuit Court yesterday (Monday).
Due to the nature and severity of the charges against him, Meza's court records won't be available until his case is bound over to District Court.
"We're very limited with what we can release," said Cheyenne Police Department spokesman Officer Kevin Malatesta.
Laramie County School District 1 Superintendent John Lyttle says the victim is "not a student at Johnson."
"I can tell you that this teacher is not teaching summer school and if the matter isn't resolved by the time staff report back to work he'll be placed on administrative leave," said Lyttle.
Meza's bond was set at $100,000 cash. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 18 at 9 a.m.
