A local car club hopes you will open your wallets as it opens its hatchbacks to collect toys this weekend.

"We are hosting a Toys for Tots, 'fill the trunk' drive," said Keith Hopkins of the WyoSport club.

The club will host the event at the east side Walmart, 4400 E. Second St., from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, Hopkins said.

"We'd like everyone to come out and check out the cars, and donate some toys if possible," Hopkins said.

The cars this year include a Dodge Viper, a classic Ford, Nissans, Mazdas, and some muscle cars, he said.

Club members ask that the toys not be wrapped. They also will accept cash donations.

The toys are distributed to people who have signed up through the toys for tots program in Casper, Glenrock and Douglas, Hopkins said.

Last year, the club collected enough toys to fill two trucks for the Toys for Tots organization, he said. "We're shooting for three trucks this year."

The relatively new club has supported community events, and some of its members know what it's like to not have much, he said.

"Everyone has a history of growing up not having a whole lot of toys, not having a whole lot of money, period," Hopkins said. "Some of us are more fortunate now that we're older. We'd just like to see smiles on kids' faces."
