Wyoming Highway Patrol troopers seized just over 16 pounds of high grade marijuana during a traffic stop Saturday November 2nd on eastbound Interstate 80 approximately 45 miles east of Evanston.

Sgt. Stephen Townsend says 23 year-old Velasco Acosta was stopped for following too close. Highway Patrol K-9 "Hank" was deployed around the vehicle after the driver gave consent. "Hank" alerted to one of five odors of controlled substances he is trained to detect. Troopers then searched the vehicle and found two duffle bags with 15 individual packages of marijuana. The marijuana would have an approximate street value of $97,380.00.

Acosta has been charged with felony possession of a controlled substance in plant form greater than 3 ounces, felony possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver and felony conspiracy to deliver a controlled substance.

Townsend says troopers and Special Agents with the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation continue to investigate this case.
