Strong Winds And Heavy Snow In Store For Wyoming

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — Strong winds are in the forecast for much of Wyoming through Wednesday.

Winds gusting up to 60 mph are possible in southeast Wyoming on Tuesday with even stronger winds expected on Wednesday. The National Weather Service says there’s a significant blowover risk for high-profile vehicles along Interstate 25 between mileposts 67 and 72.

Strong winds are also expected in central and western Wyoming. Gusts up to 80 mph are possible in the Absaroka Mountains.

The northwest flow bringing the wind is also forecast to bring snow to the western mountains. The Tetons could get up to 3 feet.

High Wind Watch remains in effect from late tonight through Wednesday evening for the Casper area. West winds of 35 to 45mph with gusts to 65mph are possible. 

Winter Storm Warning is in effect today through 5am Thursday for the following. Sierra Madre and Snowy Ranges, Big Horn Mountains, Absaroka Mountains, Teton and Gros Ventre Mountains where 2 to 3 feet of snow could fall. Salt River and Wyoming Ranges. Winter Storm Warnings are also posted for Portions of Yellowstone Park, Lake Mammoth and Old Faithful and  the Wind River Mountains.one to possibly three feet of snow will fall in those warned areas.Strong west winds of 35 to 45mph with gusts to 55mph will accompany this storm.

Winter Weather Advisories are in effect today through 5am Thursday for the Jackson, Afton, Alpine and Thayne areas. 3 to 6 inches of snow will fall with strong west winds of 25 to 45mph.

The rest of Wyoming will deal with High Wind Warnings or Watches through Wednesday night. West winds of 35 to 50mph with gust in the warned areas of up to 70 to 80mph.
