Casper firefighters and crews from the department of public works are working hard to ensure a safe area for the 4th of July fireworks display planned for Wednesday at the Casper Events Center.

Casper Fire Chief Mark Young says crews are mowing grass, and preparing the site to ensure potential grass fires started from the fireworks show are confined to a small area, and easily extinguished.

Young added that a final decision on whether to launch the fireworks will be made by his department Wednesday night, with a number of factors going into that decision, including wind speed.

Chief Young said fire investigators from his department will be working closely with Casper Police in an effort to stop anyone from discharging personal fireworks in town, and at the CEC. Fireworks are illegal in Natrona County, and anyone caught with, or using fireworks could face fines of up to $750 and jail time.
