YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, Wyo. (AP) — Yellowstone National Park saw slightly fewer visitors in August compared to a year ago.

The park recorded 780,286 recreational visitors in August, down 3.1 percent from August 2011. Despite the decline, it was still the third highest August visitation recorded at the park.

Meantime, the number of recreational visitors entering Yellowstone for the first eight months of this year is up compared to 2011. The park has recorded 2.7 million recreational visitors from January through August. That is a 2.1 percent year-to-year increase.
