Wyoming Highway Patrol K9 Killed During Traffic Stop
A Wyoming Highway Patrol K9 was killed while taking part in a search of a stopped vehicle.
The Patrol says at around 6pm on Sunday, October 19th, Trooper Dave Chatfield and K9 Robbie, where in the middle of a vehicle search, along I-80 near mile post 266, about 5-6 miles west of Arlington.
While transitioning from an interior search to an exterior search, Robbie entered the westbound lanes of travel and was struck by a passing tractor-trailer, that had moved to the far lane.
Robbie died on scene from injuries he sustained from the collision.
The Patrol says the driver of the tractor-trailer was not in violation of any laws at the time of the collision and has not been charged.
Trooper Chatfield and Robbie started training together in middle-July and started patrolling together as recently as late August.
