Wyoming Cowgirls Welcome Aggies tonight in Laramie

LARAMIE -- The Wyoming Cowgirls open the homestretch of the regular season Thursday night at 6:30 as the Cowgirls welcome Utah State to the Arena-Auditorium. Thursday's contest will be the first of two at home this week for the Cowgirls and begins a stretch of 4-of-6 games in Laramie to close the season.
Thursday's contest will be broadcast live on the Mountain West Network and can be heard across the Cowgirl Radio Network with David Settle on the call.
ABOUT THE COWGIRLS
Wyoming (15-8, 8-4 MW) saw its five-game road winning streak snapped Saturday in heartbreaking fashion at Colorado State. The Rams hit a 3-pointer with two seconds left Saturday to defeat the Cowgirls 66-63. Four Cowgirls scored in double figures in the loss and were led by Quinn Weidemann's 15 points on 6-of-14 shooting from the floor and 3-for-6 from 3-point range. Tommi Olson stuffed the stat sheet in the game, scoring 14 points, grabbing five rebounds and dishing-out five assists in the loss. Olson also had UW's lone steal on the day. Malene Pedersen and Allyson Fertig added 11 and 10 points, respectively while Fertig notched her seventh double-double of the season and second-straight by adding 12 rebounds.
On the season, Weidemann leads the Cowgirls averaging 12 points per game and is shooting 41.4-percent from beyond-the-arc. Weidemann also ranks second on the team during league play in scoring with 11.2 per contest. Fertig, meanwhile, is averaging team-bests with 12.4 points and 8.3 rebounds per game during league action and is shooting 56-percent through 12 contests. Pedersen has also played outstanding for UW in conference play. Pedersen is averaging 10.7 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game while shooting an even 50-percent from the field and is making nearly 96-percent of her shots at the free-throw line. Wyoming is scoring at a near-66 point clip in Mountain West action and is shooting 45.6-percent from the floor as a team.
IN THE RECORD BOOK
Fertig, Olson and Weidemann continue to re-write the record books in program history. Weidemann ranks fourth all-time with 239 made 3-pointers in her career and a career 3-point percentage of 41.1. Weidemann's 1,365 career points ranks 15th in program history while her 138 games played are the most all-time at Wyoming. Olson has moved into the top-10 in program history with 343 career assists, which now ranks ninth all-time. Olson's 165 career steals are eighth-best in history. Fertig has moved into 10th in program history with 70 career blocks while her 17-career double-doubles are tied for 11th.
SCOUTING UTAH STATE
Maria Carvalho leads Utah State and is the only Aggie scoring in double figures in 2022-23, averaging 10.9 points per game. Carvalho also leads the team in rebounding at 5.4 per contest, 34 steals and is second on the squad with 52 assists. Tamiah Robinson leads USU with 69 assists and is second on the team at 9.2 points and 4.6 rebounds per game. Robinson, along with Olivia Wikstrom, are the only two Aggies to appear in all 23 games this season.
Utah State is averaging 60.4 points per game and allowing 75.2 per contest. The Aggies are shooting 34.3-percent from the floor and 30-percent from 3-point range. Opponents have shot at a near-45-percent clip from the floor in 2022-23 and are shooting over 35-percent from beyond-the-arc. The Aggies turn the ball over nearly seven more times per game than they assist the ball.
SERIES HISTORY AGAINST UTAH STATE
Wyoming leads the all-time series against the Aggies, 29-10 and won this season's previous matchup in Logan, 64-52. The Cowgirls are 14-4 all-time in Laramie and have won seven consecutive inside the Arena-Auditorium. USU last came to town in February of 2021. In two career games against the Aggies, Fertig is averaging 16 points and 12 rebounds on 13-of-18 shooting overall.
