2016 statewide high school assessment results released by the Wyoming Department of Education Monday show students are on track for college.

The Wyoming Accountability in Education Act requires 9th through 11th graders to take the ACT tests each spring. Eleventh graders took the ACT and, for the first time ever, 9th and 10th graders took the ACT Aspire.

"ACT Aspire replaced Plan and Explore," said Superintendent Jillian Balow. "The change in this assessment was per ACT, not based on a new test that Wyoming adopted."

Balow says 11th graders showed improvement in every subject tested, while 9th and 10th graders exceeded the benchmark in English.

"The average composite score went from 19.8 last year to 20.04 this year," said Balow. "We don't have any score comparisons for 9th and 10th grade because the ACT Aspire is a new test."

"These ACT scores do count toward our accountability ratings, called the school performance ratings, which will be released next month," added Balow.
